Kit Pre-Orders Now!

We are back from our teaching adventures in Spain and will have some fun photos to share from the trip soon! Today I wanted to make sure that everyone knows about our KIT PRE-ORDERS available now through THIS FRIDAY ONLY!

We are offering PRE-ORDERS on three kits that we will be offering from our HONEYSWEET collection due out in stores in Septemer, '13.

But you have to order by this Friday to be included in the kit count!

Given that it's a pre-order, you only pay a small portion of your kits now and the rest is charged to your card in monthly installments until it ships. ITS LIKE YOUR OWN PERSONAL FIG TREE LAYAWAY PLAN! This way you can get more than one kit if you are a die hard Fig Tree fan and only pay a portion each month!

What's not to love about that plan?

So, first up....

CLOVERS & JAM

Its a perfect way to start a quilt, really... you start with a jelly roll so the strips are all cut for you and add a soft ivory background and you are on your way to sewing in no time! Large graphic blocks are so simple to construct and you will be in awe of how quickly this one comes together!
Each 16" block really shows off the fabric and its fabulous graphic shape at the same time. This is one of those quilts that you might want to make over and over again!
Each kit contains all the fabric you see here from our HONEYSWEET collection to make the quilt top along with a pattern and the binding fabric.

PAINTED LADIES

Perfect little blocks that are simple to make and have such a beautiful impact. Who doesn't love butterflies? Classy enough for the living room and charming enough for the little girl in your life.
These butterflies are simply constructed with squares and rectangles, no triangles whatsoever and can be done by any level of quilter! You will love each and every one of these little gals as you make them!

And last but not least, for those of you who missed the AVALON version of this lovely kit, here is the HONEYSWEET version of this best selling project...

CHERRY PIE

We all know that there is just something about cherries on a quilt.... well, something irresistible! Maybe its because it makes most of us feel like summer or because its such a nostalgic, retro feeling image, but if you put a cherry on it, it will definitely make you smile! These cherry blocks are simple and straightforward to piece with no templates or special methods and the result is just perfect! Happy cherry picking!

Each kit contains all the fabric you see here from our HONEYSWEET collection and a solid cream background to make the quilt top along with a pattern and the binding fabric.

Getting Ready...

As usual, the week before Market is a flurry and frenzy of activity around here. No matter how much earlier we think we will be ready, there is always stuff to do at the end that can only be done... well, at the end!

We have been showing lots of little sneak peaks on facebook over the last couple of weeks so if you havnen't visited or "liked us" there yet, you might want to head on over and check it out!

We have 9 new patterns to debut in Portland at Quilt Market next week and we are hoping to have them all done and off to print before we leave. Several of them are already done and waiting to be stuffed into baggies as we speak! Yeah for having some things done early this time around!!

The first pattern we let you peek at is possibly my favorite this time around. Of course you know that the second I say that, I will have another favorite take its place LOL!

The CHERRY PIE pattern was such a hit in our office that we decided to kit it early out of our AVALON fabrics and they have been selling like crazy! We have just made up our last batch of kits and put them up on the site so if you have been waiting or thinking, now is your chance!!

Go HERE for kits.

Here are a few shots of the yumminess that is CHERRY PIE!

On the 10th Day of Christmas

2NDANNUAL12daysofxmas

On the  10th Day of Christmas my true love gave to me, ten Lords a Leaping.

Now unlike nine Ladies Dancing, I could really come up with some good ideas for what ten Lords a Leaping might do around here! Just kidding! But seriously, could you imagine what I could get done around here with Ten Lords a Leaping? They could accomplish a whole lot as far as I'm concerned, leaping might even help!

On perhaps a more practical note, I know that many of you have been patiently waiting for us to introduce our AVALON PRE-ORDER KITS. We did intend to have them be the very last day of our 12 DAYS SALE, but our own ordering schedule got bumped up a bit more than expected so here they are today. Now, remember, the beauty of a PRE-ORDER is that today you get to be your own Santa and only pay for a small portion of your goodie this month and save the rest for next year... literally!

So first up.....

LOLLIPOPS: The original large scale version

Lollipops main

... the classic, graphic version of our poplular pattern is beyond stunning and completely doable. Here is the "official" description:

This 81” x  81” version of our popular Lollipops pattern is not only a joy to make, but creates an amazing graphic statement when finished. Based on a lovely soft grey/tan background, it is bordered by a fresh cream floral, giving the whole project a nostalgic, retro feel. The blades of the (9) large blocks are made from a jelly roll [less cutting for you!] and a cream background. The blocks are topstitched onto the backgrounds and no templates or applique of any kind is necessary. You will love this method of making traditional blocks anything but traditional- I promise! The posts can be made with the sweet cherry print or strip leftovers [you have both choices within the kit] and the quilt is bound with a solid red. This is a must have project for any time of the year and is destined to become a favorite!

Lollipops detail

... both retro and romantic all at the same time.

Lollipops detail 2

Lollipops-cream

... same exact quilt, just done on a crream background. If you specify cream in your order notes, we can substitute the tan/grey for the cream.

Next up....

LITTLE LOLLIES: the Avalon Retro Beach Version

If you haven't already caught on, this is the most fun quilt to make that we've come up with in a long time and we can't seem to stop!

Litle lollies main

The "official" description:

This 61” x 77” version of our popular Lollipops pattern is like the fresh, more whimsical version of its larger more imposing cousin. Based on a soft ivory background, the (12) blocks are made entirely from the strips of a jelly roll [making the cutting a snap for you] and sashed with one of my favorites in the entire collection, small red cherries on an ivory background. I seriously want to put that fabric in every quilt I make these days! The blocks are topstitched onto the backgrounds and no templates or applique of any kind is necessary. You will love this method of making traditional blocks anything but traditional- I promise! Can’t you just see those blocks twirling in the wind like pinwheels? The posts are made from strip leftovers and the quilt is bound with a classic navy dot. We have created this quilt in at least 4 different versions so far and we don’t seem to be tiring of it any time soon. Each new fabric combination seems to create an entirely new masterpiece each time and it just makes us want to create new ones. It really doesn’t look like you can get tired of making this one!

Lolliesdetail

And last but most certainly not least...

SAIL AWAY

So many have asked about this pattern and this kit and here it finally is. The pattern is up on the stie as well but we really think you might just have to have this little lovely!

Sailawaymain

There is just something so classic and clean about this quilt and even though it is a bit out of my standard range, I am completely in love with its feel!

The "official" description:

Given the fresh, retro and slightly nautical feel of our upcoming AVALON collection, we couldn’t help but branch out into a Fig Tree version of a classic sail boat pattern! It was received to rave reviews at Market and we can’t wait to share it with you in this kit. We can see this quilt in so many settings- a seaside cottage, a light modern home, a young boy’s room, as a part of an Americana quilt collection and in so many other venues. I think I might create a summer look around it this upcoming year!

Based on a Layer Cake and a few additions, this project is a lot of fun to make and easy enough to tackle one block at a time. Each boat is done from nothing more than squares and half square triangles and we promise that you will enjoy seeing each and every boat come together! The background and outer border are made from the beautiful soft, aqua, mottled solid that comes with this group and the waves are created with all of the cream prints in the collection. The quilt is bordered by a whimsical “fat” sawtooth border and bound in a solid red. You don’t want to miss out on this one!

Halloween Pops...

We are currently at the Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara CA, enjoying the quilt world with so many of you! If you are local or have travelled to the show as so many of you have, we hope you will come and see us at our Fig Tree booth. We are in the usual spot in the 500's with a lot of new goodies and patterns to share! We will post booth and show pictures in the next couple of days I promise.

For now, we wanted to share with you one of our newest patterns and the Halloween version of this quilt that we have made especially for the show and in honor of this month....

Introducing, the Lollipops pattern in our Halloween Pops version. We know this is a bit different from our usual color palette and style but we are in love with this quilt and can't wait for it to come home and enjoy some time on our couch.

We have saved a few kits for you all just in case you are not able to come and visit us in the booth. For more info click HERE...

Halloweenpopsflat

... we apologize for the convention center lighting, this is the best we could do for today.

The pattern, Lollipops, has several other versions of the modified Dresden Plate block as seen here and we will show you more this weekend. Once we show you all the versions of the pattern you'll have to tell us which is your favorite [only this version has a kit for now].

Believe it or not but all of these blocks are made with 2 1/2" strips and no templates to sew! If you are familiar with our Papillon pattern or the Dresden Plate pattern in our Fresh Vintage #16, this uses the same method but even simplified. We even figured out a way to get a perfectly flat "plate" each and every time with a little hint. You gotta love that.

The kids are already fighting over who gets it in their room first. I guess its going to be another game of ro-sham-bo at our house. I have absolutely no idea how to actually spell that but I think you know what I mean!

Happy October and Pacific International!!

A Little Blossom, A Little Jam

Blossomandjamkit

A little Blossom and a little Jam. I guess I might have been a little bit hungry when I originally named this pattern! But more likely I was thinking of my last trip to London, or more precisely, the Cottswold villages right outside of London. It seems that anytime we sat down for a snack there, we were offered something “with jam”. Mostly “scones with jam” I think, but also other things with jam.

Oh, I would really love to be back there now. Or at least have some really good jam :-).

Blossomjam2

This little project is one of my current favorites. Its kind of funny with the way things work around here, I don’t often get to enjoy the projects during their actual season. We created this little table topper in early Spring, just in time to debut for Quilt Market in May. We finished it and photographed it for the cover and then sent it on its way to visit its share of stores. Then the patterns were actually finished up and printed and they began shipping to the quilt shops and the topper continued to travel.

The fabric that it was created with, TAPESTRY, however, did not start to arrive in stores until the last couple of weeks  [for all of those yummy precuts] and the yardage is still to come [later in October].  And suddenly my little topper is back at home.

  Blossomjam3

And so in a little twist of timing, I get to enjoy my little Blossoms & Jam before she goes off on another adventure to another quilt shop or perhaps to a show or two in the fall. Meanwhile, here she is and more importantly…. She brings kits with her!!

Check it out HERE for more info. Or HERE for just the pattern.

PATTERN INFO:

Quilts & More: Scrap Lab

I'm sure you have noticed that every 3 months or so another little QUILTS & MORE: SCRAP LAB project shows up the doorstep of our blog. Well, its that time again.

It seems that each time we wrap it all up and think that we are done, its time to work on another scrappy goody for the folks at SCRAP LAB. Who knew, but apparently you guys are a little crazy about the SCRAP LAB feature and keep asking for more stuff. Thanks guys! I sure hope Camille and I [and all our guest friends] don't run out of ideas!

As usual I am not quite "on top of it all" enough to know [or if I did know, then remember] when the magazine hits the newsstands and when I am supposed to talk about it, but when QUILTS & MORE starts tweeting about the issue and I see it for sale online, I guess its safe to assume that I can blog about it. So here goes...

This time around we got to use a bit of my latest collection, California Girl, [you never know what they're going to throw at us, those crazy Quilts & More ladies] so it was super fun for me to whip up a little scrappy project for you out of my own creations! Our challenge this time around was to use a charm pack and a 1/2 yd. ivory solid fabric. Even the binding had to be from the charm pack. I have to tell you that even though you might not know it in the midst of the design process, I am really loving the challenge of using only what I have in front of me. Its kinda liberating in a funny kind of way.

So anyway, this is my contribution to this SCRAP LAB feature. As soon as I see any blogs or posts about the other projects [they are super-duper cute btw], I will add them here..... or at least tell you about them. I think you will love our guest this time around. We always love our guests... but kinda especially love this one. She is fabulous.

So... its super simple and a great beginner project or something that you can literally whip up in an afternoon. Small enough for you to easily practice your quilting on. Bound with scraps of the charm squares.

FAQ's:

The instructions & pattern are all in the latest SUMMER ISSUE '12 of QUILTS & MORE.

The magazine is available now. It is sold at many grocery stores, chain fabric stores and of course most of your local quilt shops. It is also available on-line.

We do not sell the magazine here at Fig Tree.

We do sell the kit for the project here at Fig Tree. If you are interested, CLICK here. The kits contains all the fabric you need for the top including the binding. The backing is not included. We used plain cream solid from our stash.

Have a great day!

Lotsa bolts

Boltstack

This week has been kit cutting week around here. If you have been waiting patiently for your kit lovelies to come, they are on their way! Once we wrap our heads around what is left next week, we will let you know what we might have left.

As we were throwing out piles and piles and piles of cardboard bolts, we snapped a few shots to share.

Let's just say that we are ready for the weekend and hope you enjoy yours!

Boltstack2

BTW, for all of you who have commented and emailed about my dad's health.... I can't even tell you how much that means to me. Thank you so much for your thoughts, hopes and prayers for him and us. Will share more later but I just wanted all of you to know that your kindness does not go unnoticed. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Day #8

Day8

So.... we took a little weekend break. Santa's elves apparently went out for a much needed latte break on friday afternoon and didn't come back until this morning. I guess all these sale orders just plain tuckered them out!

Oh... and we saw a little Nutcracker and will share a few photos tomorrow. Thanks for all of your emails and comments about your own Nutcracker experiences. It was really fun to read and hear about all those childhood stories.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

So today we resume the 12 Days of Christmas sale.

 First up today...

Another one of my absolutely favorite stocking stuffers for your favorite sewers and quilters. The Clover Desk Needle Threader.

I know that many of us might not want to admit that we need the help of a needle threader... but we do! And if don't technically need one, we could still sure use one! I can tell you from experience that from the first day I tried this one, I have been in love with its cute little self. It sits right next to my sewing machine and another one in my travel kit. I literally don't leave home without them

Day #3

Day3

Today we are sharing a couple of different things...

I have to mention before we start that we only have a few of these kits available as they are overstock from our recent retail show. If the website says $0 when you try to click it, that means they are already sold out. We always have the patterns in stock, but the kits are very limited. We are not able to make any more of these due to lack of the fabrics. We do not have any kits for the other Postage Stamp Series patterns. Good luck everyone!

This series is inspired by my collection of vintage postage stamps and postcards as I am in love with the abundance of charming images that I keep finding when I take the time to look through them all! This series is smaller than our previous series, the Vintage Postcard Collection.

Here the "Postage Stamps" are all app 18" x 21" and perfect for that little corner nook of the wall that needs something handmade it in! Also wonderful to display on your door as a seasonal quilt.

So far there are 6 patterns in the series with more on the way in the spring and summer of next year....

 Bunnyduetcovermoda-lg        Singinginraincovermoda-lg        Bountiful-cover-moda-th

 Roman-holiday-cover-th        Vintageskate-cover-th        WinterRobin-cover-th
