Day11
GIVEAWAY...

Thanks to all of you who entered the giveaway! I guess everyone is in the Christmas mood because in less than 48 hrs. we have had 640 of you comment! We've closed the comments tonite and will announce the winner on the last day of the 12 Days sales, on Friday.

I have absolutely loved hearing about each and everyone's favorite carols and songs! And the stories and memories and your kids singing. Thank you so much for sharing all of it with us!

It looks like the clear winners are the two classics, Silent Night and O Holy Night. But others like "Mary Did You Know?" seem to be another favorite this year. I had not even remembered hearing that one until one of you sent me the link. Thanks for that. Its an absolutely beautiful song.

Good luck on the giveaway everyone!

So now for second to last day of goodies.

Over the years, one of the questions we get over and over again is about our way of doing applique. I know that for many of you applique is something that you just refer to as the "A" word and not something that you want pursue. But trust me when I tell you, that applique is not nearly as hard as its cracked up to be. For years, I tried and worked with methods that just didn't help me until I found the Starch Method of Applique. I love it and it helps me to create the perfect shapes that I need for my designs every time. Today I thought I would share a little kit of goodies so that you can try out a little bit of starch applique on your own. I really don't think you will be sorry that you did!

So.... we took a little weekend break. Santa's elves apparently went out for a much needed latte break on friday afternoon and didn't come back until this morning. I guess all these sale orders just plain tuckered them out!

Oh... and we saw a little Nutcracker and will share a few photos tomorrow. Thanks for all of your emails and comments about your own Nutcracker experiences. It was really fun to read and hear about all those childhood stories.

So today we resume the 12 Days of Christmas sale.

 First up today...

Another one of my absolutely favorite stocking stuffers for your favorite sewers and quilters. The Clover Desk Needle Threader.

I know that many of us might not want to admit that we need the help of a needle threader... but we do! And if don't technically need one, we could still sure use one! I can tell you from experience that from the first day I tried this one, I have been in love with its cute little self. It sits right next to my sewing machine and another one in my travel kit. I literally don't leave home without them

You guys are a lovely and crazy group of shoppers, my friends, and we are trying hard to keep up with you but please bear with us as we have gotten a day or so backed up with the sale purchases!

Tonite, my munchkin and I are going to see the Nutcracker and I promised I would make her and her 2 BFF's, matching cream Snuggle scarves! I think I might put a bit of red fabric on the bottom if I have time. I guess I should go get on that. I will post some pictures on Monday. They all plan on wearing their red dresses with their cream scarves so that they "match". I wish I was 7 again and thinking about nothing except matching with my friends. Love it.

Day #5

Day5

I am sure that I have mentioned on more than one occasion, my love of pillows! Its the perfect way to completely change your room in an afternoon- for a special occasion, for a freshen up or for a holiday makeover. A couple of pillows on the couch, the bed or your favorite recliner or love seat can and will completely change the feel of your room. Really!

This pattern, Pillow Duets, has the pattern for both a square pillow in either a 3- fabric plus linen version or the scrappy charm pack with linen version. It also contains the rectangular button pillow that can be made entirely from a charm pack and some linen. Can you imagine the different ways that you could make these with a single charm pack and some neutral solid of any kind! Makes me want to go make pilllows!!

Pillowduetbloglighter

Buttonpillowcloseuplighter
... button pillows made from Buterscotch & Rose on the bottom, Buttercup & Strawberry Fields on the top.

Special #1:

Square Pillow Kit, Butterscotch & Rose version. Contains pattern, linen, backing, Butterscotch & Rose charm pack, button kit... basically all you would need to make the pillow exactly as seen. And actually with a few more buttons, the same kit can also make the Button Pillow instead if you prefer!

As an alternative for those of you who are feeling more "festive" than "makeover", we created a holiday version of the same pillow pattern.

Introducing the Holiday Duet...

... a little linen, my favorite red Queen Anne's Lace fabric from Butterscotch & Rose, my favorite mosaic fabric from Mill House Inn and a few fun green buttons. Perfect for my holiday couch! Okay so maybe I did have a bit of an ulterior motive for making the prototype... it might be or not be gracing my living room couch next week!

... oh, and you can't see it here but it has a lovely cream, green and red floral geranium print from the 3 Sisters Martinique collection for the back of the pillow.

Special #1:

Day #4

Day4

I know its a little bit late for this, but that's just how we roll around here. This morning I realized that I had wanted to share this super simple advent calendar that we created as a family last year. It works with any age kids! So before we share today's special, here is a quick how to on the calendar.

 OUR FAMILY ADVENT CALENDAR

Adventcalendarfull

Adventcalendarcloseup

Quick Steps to Make Your Own:

Step 1: Quilt a 27" x 36" piece or use an already quilted scrap. Even easier, start with a pre-quilted piece of fabric- we used a pre-quilted cream flannel that we like to keep on had for projects just like this one. Trim it down to 23" x 32".

Step 2: Cut (4) 3 1/4" strips of red binding. Join pieces and bind the background piece all the way, making 1/2" wide binding [which basically means that you sew exactly like a standard quilt binding but  1/2" away from the edge instead of the standard 1/4" seam allowance].

Step 3: Cut (25) 3 1/2" x 8 1/2" pocket pieces in a variety of reds, creams, green and greys.

Step 4: Fold the pocket pieces in half lengthwise so that the piece you have is 3 1/2" x 4 1/4". Sew up the 2 sides and turn inside out.

Made pocket

You will now have a pocket that has the fold on one end, raw edges on one end and sewn up sides. Press well. Do this for all 25 pockets.

Step 5: Using your favorite erasable pen, make the following lines horizontally across the calendar:

6 1/2" from the top

5 3/4" from the previous line

5 3/4" from the previous line

5 3/4" from the previous line

5 3/4" from the previous line.

Linesonadvent

Step 6: You will have a total of 5 lines along which you will align the 5 pockets on each line. I worked from the center of each line, centered the middle pocket and then positioned the remaining 4 approximately 1 1/4" away from each other on both sides.

Working one row at a time, position the pockets as described above, with the raw edges 1/4" above your marked line, with the pocket facing downwards. Pin each pocket in place and sew on the marked line with a 1/4" seam allowance, backstitching well on both ends. Repeat for all 5 pockets in that line.

Addingpockets

Step 7: Flip the pocket up so that the raw edge bottom is now hidden "inside" the pocket. Stitch up both sides of the pocket. I angled the edges of the pockets in a tiny bit in order to create some "room" inside the pocket. If you sewed up the side in a perfectly straight line, you would get a perfectly flat pocket. But if you nudge the top of the pocket into the center a bit and sew it up, then you will create a bit of "pocket" each time. Repeat for all the pockets, all the rows.

Pocketssewn on

Step 8: Press some fusible webbing product such as Wonder Under onto a couple of coordinating charm squares or scraps. Hand out the backed scraps to your family members and tell them to cut out whatever Christmas images they would like. When they are finished, simply press the images onto a few of the pockets. I don't know how many years this calendar will last, but the family sure did have a lot of fun making it! I wonder if everyone will remember which cut outs are theirs. I wonder if the husband will fess up to which one was his too LOL!

As for the Day #4 Special... All MODA Snuggle fabrics are 15% off! We have coral, aqua, cream and yellow and let me tell you that they make the most beautiful and snuggly quilt backings you have ever felt!

For any quilt up to a 60" lap size, you won't even have to piece the back because MODA Snuggles are 60" wide.

Largersnuggle

Our favorite way to use them... is on the front and back for kid's quilt. Cut up a few strips or squares of your favorite Snuggles colors, sew them together into a simple quilt top, back it in their favorite Snuggle color and that will be the quilt that they don't want to part with!

My 10 yr. old son's favorite one has a bunch of strips and a giant cotton fabric "Z" appliqued right in the middle. My daughter's, has a few appliqued flowers and a ruffle from our Whimsy Fresh pattern. The possibilities are endless!

We use Snuggles for everything from scarves, to stuffed animals, to pincushions, to slipper linings to baby blankets....

SCHOOLDAY SATCHELS

SchooldaySatchelcovermoda-lg

One of my favorite new patterns this fall is the SchoolDay Satchel. Both bags are fashioned after my favorite little everyday bag- one just much bigger than the other. I use both bags every day and I absolutely love each for the purpose that they serve- the little one is my favorite little everyday purse and the Laptop bag is, well, my perfect, classy, unique laptop bag that goes with me pretty much everywhere!

Its not often that I get to keep the prototypes that we make for the pattern cover but I just haven't been able to resist either one of these!

First up, the little satchel...

Samallsatchelcloseupblog

... the perfect little handbag size.

Satchelsonfenceblog

... both sizes together. The perfect combination!

Smallsatchelexpanded
... another view. Buckles are decorative on both versions. Both bags are simple and basic and accessible to any level of sewer. No complicated assemblies here!

Second up, the laptop version of the exact same satchel. The pattern cover shows it in a brighter red version but we have also made it up in this wonderful dark grey version from French General, meant as a perfect neutral combination for any outfit.

Greylaptop

... front of the laptop bag. One pocket on the front outside just like on the purse version. Fully lined inside.

Mini Stockings

Since we have been completely remiss in showing you all of the new goodies that we introduced at Market, I thought I'd start with the ones that you might want to be making soon...or like right now!

Introducing the MINI STOCKINGS pattern!

For us a lot of the time, we want something simple and fun in between the more involved and time consuming projects as it gives us something completely different to work on and it gives us almost instantaneous results. Sometimes I am all about the instant gratification LOL! This was our favorite solution to that problem!

These little guys are so much fun to make whether you choose to spend a bit more time and make them scrappy or go for the quick project and make them all out of one fabric. Fun to make together with friends, with your kids or just on your own for a little holiday project.

Perfect for small gifts for friends- filled with some goodies, to  hang on your door, for teacher presents or to decorate just about any nook or cranny of your home!

Stockingtrio

... scrappy patchwork, romantic pink or our strawberry version, all together on a door.

Love Fall.

Working on some author review for my upcoming book today and couldn't resist sharing the view from my dining room table where I am currently working. It might also be that I am procrastinating just a tiny bit.

If this is my editor reading.... I am definitely not procrastinating. Just gathering inspiration :-).
