Pattern Showcase: Pineapple & Figs

One of my all-time favorite patterns made from one of my all time favorite color palettes, PINEAPPLE & FIGS uses a no ruler, no funky cutting techniques method that makes these blocks come together in such a simple way that you won't believe it. Its just rectangles and squares. Really!

If you have ever wanted to make this classic block but didn't want to deal with templates or bias, then this really is for you. I think. Sewing these blocks is remarkably similar to  making a Log Cabin block and just as simple and basic.

It's perfect in these autumn flavored colors, or in a variety of others, although I am personally biased to this one. Autumn is my favorite time of the year and this color combo just sings to me. I should have put a cream SNUGGLE on the back... but then there would be a fight over who gets to use it every single day!

We have made it in a more summer flavored version out of our California Girl fabrics as well as a darker, more striking version made with a beautiful burgundy background [seen at the end of the post].There are just so many color varieties that I can visualize this pattern in!

If all goes according to plan, I will be doing a blog tutorial on this method in October! More info coming soon.

NAME: Pineapple & Figs

SIZE: 71" x 71"

FABRIC: Made from our TAPESTRY collection on the front and back cover, our CALIFORNIA GIRL collection on the inside pages. More inside shots from both of the above collections as well as the original version shown from the cover of our very first edition of our Fresh Vintage™ magazine.

Wow, what a striking quilt! I too love Autumn colors, and this one will be on my must-make list.

I love how the patterns on the fabrics are broken down with this tequnique: it's all about the colour! Yum (have just picked some dark purple Sweetpeas and burnt orange roses for the kitchen table....I'm really ready for Tapestry!!) x

Gorgeous quilts, is this one that is in your book, I have it, and plan to make one of them, the 2 color one, as soon as summer is over. Are you aware that an error message comes up when we try to go to your "more info" site? I've noticed it for a couple days now..lovely blog, thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for your comment on the blog. This pattern is not included in the book but is a stand alone pattern packet.
Also thanks so much for letting us know about the error message. Hopefully it is now fixed.

Happy sewing!

That sounds like a perfect flower/color combination! So very jealous you have sweetpeas!!! My favorite flower ever!

Log cabin is my favorite "traditional" block and I've always wanted to try the pineapple, but all those angles keep me away. A tutorial would be so appreciated, thanks.

The Pineapple quilt is absolutely stunning. The colors really "sing" in both light & dark colorways !!!

Just looking at those quilts makes me smile! I like the idea of using soft backing. But will the lucky owner ever get out from under the quilt?

Love it!!!! Can't wait until October.

This is gorgeous!!! Would love to try it with my California Girl fabric, also. Can't wait for the tut!!

Oh. My. GOODNESS this quilt is GORGEOUS!!

If I order the pattern packet is all the info for the easy log cabin way to make it in it?
I can't wait for October! Can you use a jelly roll with this?

Very pretty! And if you can make it simple, I'm willing to give it a whirl!

All of the instructions are in the packet pack. You cannot use a jelly roll. You would need 25 quarter yards or fat quarters.

Thanks so much for your comment on the blog. We will be doing a tutorial in October to coincide with the release of the new fabric line. We will be showing how to do the method [but will not be giving out measurements, etc.] All you will need to follow along is the pattern for Pineapple Figs.

Thanks so much, Joanna

Just beautiful...look forward to the tutorial.

It is beautiful. I am looking forward to a tutorial on this, I am definitely going to have to make this quilt. I love the fabric too.

Just gorgeous! I can't wait for the tutorial! Would love to make a pineapple quilt... and gosh those autumn fabrics just sing to me, too! I think of the pineapple... the symbol of hospitality and with the fall and all the holidays associated with that season of the year - what a great quilt to work on! :O) Love the runner in your header, too... is that in your book?

I will be watching for the tutorial. I would love to make a quilt like this! It's stunning!!

The table topper is one of our newest mini pattern, BLOSSOMS JAM. It is not in the book though.

Thanks! Joanna

Woah! I'm in. Can't wait for the tutorial. LOVE this quilt!

Oh...I need to make one for me...and Diana's gorgeous quilting...LOVE!

I am so glad that you are showing the photos of the quilts from the pattern. Just the pattern cover shots were not enough! These are gorgeous and I can't wait for the fabric to be released!

Oh they look wonderful I think I will be adding to my "to do list" Can I ask what you use for the back of your quilts? do you join fabric or do you use wide backing fabric? and if so do you have any suggestions to match the cream you use so often on your tops.

This quilt is fantastic..... Will you be offering it

as a Quilt kit? I hope you can.

Thanks so much for providing us with so much joy from

your great artistic gift for color and design. You are
