Happy Easter & Wesolych Swiat

Happy Easter my friends!

AAHZ00136515141Scan0021

Easter has always been an important part of our family life and as long as I can remember we have been gathering goodies for our specially decorated baskets and going to the nearest Polish Catholic Church to have those baskets blessed. It is an old Polish tradition that has been passed down the generations in our family. Each basket must have an egg [which stands for rebirth], a piece of sausage [which stands for health & abundance], a chunk of bread [which stands for good fortune] and some salt [I don't remember what that stands for] . Most baskets are also decorated with fresh greens from the garden to represent Spring, small sugar or butter lambs and other handmade straw pleated animals. Many people spend many hours decorating the traditional Polish eggs called Pisanki.

So tomorrow will find us gathering a few yummies for our own baskets, getting dressed in our Sunday best and going to get our baskets blessed. On Sunday we will use the blessed eggs from the baskets to begin our Sunday meal. I love this tradition. I hope that all of you get the chance to spend some time celebrating your own Easter or Passover traditions with those you love.

I received my two issues of Fresh Vintage and LOVE them! So much creative inspiration in there...I will definitely be purchasing each future issue!

Thanks for sharing your tradition. I love hearing about what everyone does for the holidays.

I bought some Patisserie fabric on Saturday. Even prettier in person, I love it!

What a great tradition, Joanna! My husband is Polish - I'll have to ask him if he's heard of this! BTW - I'm loving my Fresh Vintage sewing book - I've made two projects from it already!
Cheers!

Hi Joanna,

I know this is a little late. Anyway, since you have a love for Easter, especially vintage Easter, and I love your fabrics and designs. Do you think you could ever do an Easter line of fabrics? I don't understand why there are so many beautiful Christmas lines but Easter fabrics are very rare. Maybe you could pass this on to Moda. Thank you!!!
