A bit later than expected but here we are. I'm finally cuddled up on my couch late on a Saturday night with my cup of tea. Its pouring buckets outside & I'm finally done reading all of the comments.
I have to tell you that I really, really enjoyed learning about your guys, a bit of your history and what you love. I feel like I know you a tiny bit better! On a more personal note, it was really comforting for me to read so many lovely comments during this particular moment in time. Your words have really encouraged me in an unexpected way, so thank you so much for that!

Our waylay over here has been due to a bit of the following: 4 1/2 Variety Show acts, 3 costume changes, 1 new strobe light as well as 3 soccer championship games in the rain, 4 snack trips for hungry teenage boys, 2 playdates and 1 "hang out" time [because God forbid we call that which 14 year olds do "a play date"] and a lot of chauffering of above participants!
But I know the real reason you are here is not to hear the recap of the social lives of my children but to see about the giveaway!

Just wanted to thank all of you for your lovely compliments, comments, stories and opinions! You guys are just the best!
We have closed the comments at 685 to give me a chance to catch up and because we thought that was quite enough competition don't you think? I am reading them all and am about 100 or so behind at the moment so bear with me!
I will post winners on Friday as promised, but most likely Friday night [California time] so I can read through every single one and then generate the winning #'s!
For now let me tell you what I have learned:
That QUILTING is taking an ever so slight lead over SEWING. But that a large majority of you are looking forward to both.
That so many of you started in one area and have over the years moved to the other and then back again. I tell you, this book is especially for you!
That you guys are a committed & talented group of ladies [& perhaps gentlemen too].
That you guys are the best fans a girl could ever have.
That I am so excited that you are looking forward to the book!

I am so very excited and proud to share with you, my latest "baby". Many a times I did indeed compare it to child birth so I guess the metaphor has stuck!
My new book....
It feels like it has been such a long time in the coming but I guess if I look at it all with better perspective, it hasn't been that long at all- at least not for a book process that is!
I will tell you much more in the upcoming weeks and share a lot of fun stuff about the process & the projects. For now I am just happy to show you this!
The book showcases projects that are both geared towards quilters as well as sewers and focuses on both of these wonderful worlds in separate sections of the book!

This week has been kit cutting week around here. If you have been waiting patiently for your kit lovelies to come, they are on their way! Once we wrap our heads around what is left next week, we will let you know what we might have left.
As we were throwing out piles and piles and piles of cardboard bolts, we snapped a few shots to share.
Let's just say that we are ready for the weekend and hope you enjoy yours!
BTW, for all of you who have commented and emailed about my dad's health.... I can't even tell you how much that means to me. Thank you so much for your thoughts, hopes and prayers for him and us. Will share more later but I just wanted all of you to know that your kindness does not go unnoticed. I appreciate each and every one of you.

For those of you who have followed me for a while, you might remember these beauties that bloom outside my studio windows every late winter. The color and feel and shape of them is just unbelievable.
Usually I try to photo them alongside my daughter as a way of seeing her change and the blooms stay the same every year. I still hope to do that this year but so far life has gotten a bit in the way.

I don't know if you remember but last week I promised everyone another great reveal. I still plan on getting that reveal to you soon! Unfortunately I had to go out of town quite suddenly due to some urgent family health issues. Wish it wasn't happening. Wish I could make it all go away. Wish that instead I was working on another great reveal. But it is not to be so today. Maybe tomorrow. One day at a time they say.
I might write more later. Once we all wrap our heads around what "it" is.
For today, however, I am hoping that Magnolias might make you happy. They are certainly bringing a ray of sunshine to our world. Even if I am not at home to see them right this very moment.

You know when you see fabric that just makes your heart skip a beat?
That is what this is doing for me right now. I know, I know... part of me feels like I can't say that about my own work and I should wait for someone else to say it. But I can't!
I also have to admit that this is not always true of every collection or design I do. Sometimes I really like them and think they are good. Sometimes I love them. Sometimes I wish I could have added something more or expressed my vision a bit differently. Sometimes its a combo of all of the above.
But sometimes, I dream about them before they get here. This is one of those times.
I have so many more pics to show you but I think it might be best to wait just a bit. It's called TAPESTRY. Hope it adds some loveliness to your day.

Last week we had a little crisis after bath time as my daughter's favorite hooded robe, that she has had since she was 2 years old, would no longer fit over her head! It was time for another one. Perhaps a bit over time. but time nonetheless.
And just so you know, sometimes that is the only way anything ever gets done around here. It has to have a deadline or generate a personal crisis LOL otherwise it gets put on the bottom of the list! What is it that they say about the cobbler's children and shoes :-).....
But I digress.
The process that followed was so simple and so quick that I thought I'd share it with you.
1. Go to Target. Buy a bath towel and a hand towel in the same color. Total cost about $10.00.
HAND TOWEL
2. Take the hand towel and cut 3" off one of the short sides. Turn the cut edge under 1/2" and then under 1/2" again. Pin it in place and sew it down to create a finished edge.
3. Cut 3" off one long sides of the hand towel. Zigzag the entire edge to prevent it from fraying.
Note: You can of course trim more off of either side. We made our hood fairly large on purpose.
BATH TOWEL
4. Find the center of bath towel on one of the long sides and mark with a pin. Find the center of the uncut/finished long side of the hand towel and mark with a pin. Line up the two centers and pin the hand towel to the bath towel.
5. Sew the hand towel to the bath towel. Be sure to backstitch on both ends very well as this is where it will get most of the pull.
6. Fold the hand towel in half [you are folding the whole robe at this point], "right sides" together- this means you need to make sure that you are folding it in half so that the sides that you want to be the finished side of the robe is placed together. Pin the top together and sew closed along the top [this should be the section that you cut and zigzagged in Step 3].
7.From the corner of the hood, measure over 4 1/2" in both directions - over and down- and mark with a pin. Draw a line from 4 1/2" mark to 4 1/2" mark at a 45 degree angle across the tip of the hood. Sew on that line and then trim off the excess corner fabric. Zigzag that trim line so that it does not fray.
You have just trimmed the top off the hood so that it fits better on your child's head and so it doesn't look quite so much like a gnome!
8. Turn the hood right side out. Applique anything you like to the outside of the robe such as their name, a flower, a sailboat, an animal.... anything they like! We did a little daisy that consisted of a petal and a circle.
That's it. The whole project can be easily done in 2 hrs- and that's including your trip to Target!
